Dr. Steven Barna is a Board Certified, Fellowship-Trained Interventional Pain Physician who specializes in the highest quality conservative and non-surgical minimally invasive spine care, to maximize a patient's quality of life. 95% of back and neck pain conditions can be treated without surgery. Dr. Barna focuses on appropriately diagnosing, treating and coordinating multi-disciplinary care for patients with acute and chronic spinal conditions including spinal stenosis, herniated disc and degenerative disc disease.
He also provides care for non-spine conditions such as RSD/CRPS and others. Evidence-based minimally invasive options include x-ray guided epidural steroid injection, facet joint injection, SI joint injection, discography, radiofrequency ablation, spinal cord stimulation, percutaneous discectomy, IDET, sympathetic block, and other advanced therapies.
Prior to joining The Center for Spinal Disorders at Florida Orthopaedic Institute in 2011, Dr. Barna spent nearly 10 years dedicated to clinical academic education at Harvard Medical School including roles as Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Assistant Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology, as well as Medical Director of the Center for Pain Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Barna currently serves as Assistant Professor of Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine at University of South Florida College of Medicine and is actively pursuing clinical research and medical education opportunities.
Dr. Barna is recognized nationally, having served as Secretary of the Massachusetts Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, Medicare Contractor Advisory Committee Representative for New England, Editorial Board Consultant for American Journal of Geriatric Pharmacotherapy and Pain Physician journals, and Content Leader/Head of Pain management for HealthTank LLC. He has presented nearly 100 invited lectures including at Harvard, MIT, Tufts, Babson, and University of Miami. Dr. Barna has over 20 publications including reviews, book chapters, clinical communications, letters to the editor, and abstracts.
