Volleyball Starter and Swim Team Captain from Brandon High School receive Athlete of the Week Honors

Tampa, Fla. – October 9, 2018 – Florida Orthopaedic Institute (FOI) is proud to announce its Athlete of the Week award winners for the week ending October 12, 2018. This week’s winner of the Team Player Award is freshman volleyball player from Brandon High School Yomaris Rodriguez-Castell. The Leadership Award goes to swim team captain Jason M. Williamson, also from Brandon High School.

Both Rodriguez and Williamson were nominated by Athletic Director Ronald Buffano who recognized the athletes’ skills and performance in their respective sports.

“Rodriguez-Castell is only a freshman on the varsity volleyball team. She is a starter and is currently second overall in the State for 7A in hitting percentage and kills per game. She is also fourth overall in the State for all classifications 1A – 8A in hitting percentage and kills per game. Her skills just keep on amazing us every day”, said Buffano.

As for Williamson, the Athletic Director highlighted, “He is the boys swim team captain and a role model to his peers. Jason helps the team by mentoring newer swimmers and helping them to learn the different strokes. He performs well academically and has many goals after he graduates.”

The Leadership Award winner Jason M. Williamson said “The key to going the distance to me is discipline and consistency. My best advice for others is, ‘if you receive an 85 on a test you shouldn’t celebrate, you should figure out the 15 percent you missed. Work first and play second.”

The FOI Athlete of the Week – Team Player Award is given each week to a Hillsborough County high school athlete whose coaches feel does his or her best to put direction into action, make a significant contribution to the team, and continuously works to improve his or her skills, attitude and training.

Athletes who earn the FOI Athlete of the Week – Leadership Award must exemplify strong relationship building skills, show excellent initiative on and off the court, and serve as a role model for his or her peers.
