Back in the Game – Kenyon Sutton
My name is Kenyon Sutton. I’m 41 years old.
Kenyon is a patient of mine that is a former college basketball player.
I went to Santa Fe on a basketball scholarship and played basketball there. And then had several offers and one had an offer to walk-on at Florida. And I just played so much and I was always going, doing, doing something. And, and I think it just wore that cartilage out. I went to several orthopedic physicians who would not do a hip replacement on someone under the age of 55. I wanted to see Dr. Michael Miranda at Florida Orthopaedic Institute and right away I could tell her he, he was different. He took the time to, to learn about my background when I began having pain.
Basically because there’s no joint space or no cartilage left, every time he would move his hip, he would have excruciating pain in the joint.
We went through all the steps to treat him with medications, physical therapy, and other modalities and they all failed. So we discussed a hip replacement. So what I’ve been doing is a direct anterior approach to the total hip arthroplasty. And the reason for doing this is that it restores the patient’s activity level at what we believe to be a faster rate. Kenyon had a tremendous recovery after it was surgery, I couldn’t be happier with the procedure with that, the outcome with my ability to do just about anything that I could do you know, 15 years ago. I’m a completely changed person because of this procedure.
