Vicki Kasper, Distal Radius Wrist Fracture Testimonial
I’m Vicki Kasper and I’ve been in the States now for about 50 years. Originally from England. I married a Marine and went to South Carolina. I’ve been living all over the United States. At this time in my life, living in Florida, which I really do enjoy. I do a lot of traveling. I’ve been to Australia and New Zealand a few times and we’ve just gotten back from London and Paris this past month. I’ve really enjoyed playing golf. I learned to play golf in the last 10 or 15 years and we belonged to Tampa Palms Country Club where we play at least three times a week and we also joined the Audubon society at Tampa Palms and there are only a few of us that actually did any work because everyone was quite elderly. So every Monday, if there wasn’t a tournament, my husband and I used to go and cater to all the gardens. We actually increased it from 2 to 13 and this particular Monday when I had my accident, we were pretty much done with our work and we are coming over this bridge on hole number 18. And the maintenance cart they gave us this time kept polling a lot to the left. As we rounded the corner, the maintenance cart started pulling against the left into the water and my husband pulled it to the right and I flew off the back landing on my left shoulder, my left wrist, and my left knee. And I knew immediately there was something wrong. We then went ahead and took me to emergency because I had a broken wrist and a broken clavicle.
After the hospital, I’ve referred to go to a doctor to see about possible surgery. After going to this particular doctor, I decided that I wasn’t comfortable. I did not want to go back to this doctor. I then remembered friends saying that they had used Florida Orthopaedic Institute for many of their surgeries. So I went on their website and I find Dr. Nydick. And I called to make an appointment and they saw me the next day. My first visit to Florida Orthopaedic Institute with Dr. Nydick Was outstanding. Staff were unbelievable. When Dr. Nydick came in he answered all my questions, he took more x-rays and he said, I definitely needed the surgery on my wrist, the clavicle. I had to just wear sling for two months. That’s the only way that heals.
When I went for surgery, I couldn’t believe how all the staff were well notified that had a broken clavicle. They made sure that I had some kind of block in it, so the nerve that it was already in a position where I wouldn’t have to turn my shoulder.r again, concern from the doctor, the nurses, the staff. It was all a really good experience. After going back to Dr. Nydick, to examine my hand and my list after surgery. Took X rays. He’s well pleased that everything had turned out well. That the plate and the three screws that are now in my wrist and all nice and straight again. I couldn’t do much physical therapy, although he gave me a few hand ones that I could do. Every time I went back he gave me different hand exercises and he said I will not need physical therapy on my hand because I’d been doing everything he’s told me to do. The only exercise I could do was walking. I loved yoga. I used to do yoga before golf, played three rounds of golf weights three times a week. I could not do any of that. I still wasn’t up to it. Two months later, still just walking and doing my hand exercises. I’m now progressed to holding the two-pound weight and twisting it around in my wrist to strengthen it. Dr. Nydick suggested it’s gonna take at least six to nine months to get back into the way I was working out playing golf and going to the gym. So I’m looking forward to a much better year and a much better life. This has been a real strain on me and who I am not being able to do my normal daily duties, only daily exercise and enjoying life. I stopped enjoying being here because I’d be so in pain and unable to do the work on that today. I would put the word caring into all that I’ve experienced. The Florida Orthopaedic Institute from the beginning to the end. Phone calls returned on time, there was never a problem. If I wanted a copy of the x-ray, it was given to me. As I left the offices, they did 100% follow up on everything. Not usually doctors offices called at the same day as you call it, to get any information, but they did it for us and I would highly recommend it.
