In just a few days, ghosts, skeletons, and mummies will be walking the streets and stuffing their pillowcases with candy. Whether you’re planning on trick-or-treating with your family or staying near the candy bowl at home, Halloween could be stressful on your feet and ankles. In the spirit of the holiday, Dr. Bolos, a Podiatrist at Florida Orthopaedic Institute, has given you seven tips and spooky tricks to help you keep your feet healthy on Halloween night!

1. Comfort over style.

Pick comfortable shoes with support and laces for the best fit. Improper shoe gear can cause pain and injury.

2. Don’t skip the socks.

Choose moisture-wicking socks. Avoid 100% cotton socks as they can retain moisture and cause blisters.

3. Check your costume.

Make sure that the length of the costume does not interfere with your ability to ambulate safely. Try your costume and walk around in it prior to going out as you can correct any hazardous issues that could cause you to trip or fall.

4. Check the route.

Walk the route you plan to take during the day as you could prepare for potholes, uneven curbs, and debris that could lead to injury.

5. Bring a flashlight.

Ensure you stay visible and have light to avoid any hazards in the road.

6. Inspect your feet when you get home.

When you get home check ankles and feet for any injuries that may have occurred and tend to them quickly.

7. Don’t wait on injuries.

If injuries are noted don’t wait and schedule an appointment to be seen.
