Sciatica Surgery

I run Southern Extreme Charters. It’s a dive service. You stand on your feet eight to 10 hours a day. It just takes a toll on your back. It’s been about a year and a half ago. I had a sciatic nerve problem. It’s a, it’s almost an excruciating pain that you can’t stand. I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t walk, I couldn’t do anything. I think a reasonable goal and patients who have spinal conditions is to get them back functioning the level that they want to function.

We had actually nerves being pinched in his spine at the L five nerve root, which comes out right here was getting pinched. Again, as it’s coming out of the spine. In this case, we used a new procedure on him called the IO flex. You can do that minimally invasive through a small incision. Once you know that you’re safely away from the nerve, you can actually pass an instrument through. It actually will cut the bone and or the soft tissue away from the nerve. Cause I think it has been very successful in the cases that we’ve done.

When he came in to see me in recovery, I told him then I said, the pain’s gone. He fixed it. And two weeks later I was up and going like nothing had never happened. What I really like about spine surgery is seeing people improve. Cause I went from being in a wheelchair back to standing up doing what I want you to do. So that’s a big step. It’s been a plus for me. I can tell you that.
