About Dr. Mir
Dr. Hassan Mir is fellowship trained and board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery & Medical Education and Associate Dean of Cultural Enrichment & Environment at University of South Florida (USF), and Director of Orthopaedic Trauma Research at Florida Orthopaedic Institute (FOI). He previously served as Residency Program Director for several years.
Dr. Mir completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at the Campbell Clinic in Memphis, TN. He then completed an additional year of fellowship training in Orthopaedic Traumatology at Tampa General Hospital. He obtained his Physician Executive MBA at Auburn University.
Dr. Mir’s clinical interests include care of the polytraumatized patient, pelvic and acetabular fractures, and complex peri-articular fractures. He also has interests in clinical and health policy research, medical education, and involvement with multiple national orthopaedic organizations. He has served as the Chief Financial Officer for the Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA), on the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgery (AAOS) Diversity Advisory Board and Council on Advocacy, on the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) Board of Directors, on the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Committee on Trauma, and as a consultant reviewer for multiple journals. He also consults with multiple industry partners on innovative projects to improve patient care.
Dr. Mir has authored over 200 peer-reviewed and invited publications, and multiple book chapters. He has presented his research at numerous national and international meetings. He has participated as faculty at dozens of courses and training programs across the globe. His dedication to education was rewarded with the Resident Teaching Award at both Vanderbilt and at USF/FOI. His career productivity has been recognized nationally as a recipient of the AOA/JOA Traveling Fellowship to Japan, as an AAOS Leadership Fellow, and as an AOA American-British-Canadian (ABC)Traveling Fellow to the UK/Australia/New Zealand.
Dr. Mir grew up in West Virginia and was high school Valedictorian. He obtained his undergraduate degree at WVU, where he was Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He received his Doctor of Medicine from WVU and was Alpha Omega Alpha.
