About Dr. Lyons
Dr. Lyons is specialty trained in Adult Reconstruction, He completed a fellowship in joint replacement at the University of Utah. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and currently serves on that board as an oral examiner. He has treated patients in the Tampa Bay area for over 25 years and has served on the Florida Orthopedic Institutes’ board of directors for the last 15 years. He is a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee surgeons and has served on the board of the Florida Orthopaedic Society for 11 years and was the past president of that organization presiding in 2019-2020.
Dr. Lyons currently serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of South Florida and has mentored many fellows in the FOI adult reconstruction fellowship program for over 20 years. He has been involved in the development of both hip and knee implants over his career and currently is a co-designer of one of the most popular knee replacement designs globally, with Zimmer Biomet. He is also a co-designer of Zimmer Biomet’s revision knee system that has impactfully changed revision knee surgery for the better.
Dr. Lyons has given numerous oral presentations and has instructed in many teaching conferences, labs, and live surgeries over the years. He continues to be actively involved in research, publishing yearly in orthopaedic journals, and serving on the editorial board of the Journal of Arthroplasty. Dr. Lyons has been consistently named as one of the best orthopaedic doctors by various peer reviewed and web-based Physician rating companies. Dr. Lyons has been chosen as a member of “Who’s Who in Orthopaedics”, “The Best Doctors in America” by U.S. News and World Report and has been featured in Tampa Bay Metro Magazine and Tampa Style magazine.
Doctor Lyons loves exotic cars and is an avid F1 racing enthusiast. In his spare time, he enjoys spending it with his wife and their two dogs, Simi, and Enzo.
