About Dr. Sonnanstine
Dr. Sonnanstine is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. She earned a certificate of added qualification in Sports Medicine, furthering her expertise. She did her fellowship training in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she worked closely with LSU and Southern University student athletes. She provided sideline coverage at the collegiate level for both men’s and women’s sports. She was also a team physician for Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. She is currently the team physician for Plant high school in Tampa. In addition to sports medicine, she has experience in the fields of primary care, urgent care and concierge medicine.
Dr. Sonnanstine has lectured on sports medicine topics including proper physical exam techniques, acute sports injuries and the use of biologics in sports medicine. She has worked with the Arthritis Foundation to promote awareness of joint disease. She has been involved in concussion and sports nutrition research and is a credentialed ImPACT consultant for concussion treatment. And she is involved in the Bone Health program for the treatment of osteoporosis, vitamin deficiencies and fracture prevention.
Dr. Sonnanstine has been an active member of several professional medical organizations including the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and the American College of Sports Medicine. She also serves as gratis faculty for the Tulane University School of Medicine.
For her patients, Dr. Sonnanstine believes in an individualized, comprehensive approach to medical management. She enjoys developing relationships with her patients that allow her to craft a unique nonoperative treatment plan to get her patients back to their active lifestyles. She takes into account her patients’ goals and works with them to achieve success.
In her spare time Dr. Sonnanstine enjoys traveling, hiking, golf, yoga, working out and running. She has completed multiple marathons, a triathlon, scuba diving certification, as well as a yoga teacher training program. She also enjoys watching sports, cooking at home with her husband and playing with her golden retriever puppy.
