About Diagnostic Imaging

Here at Florida Orthopaedic Institute, we offer a variety of diagnostic tests, which include not only X-ray but MRI and CT at this particular location. Florida Orthopaedic South, we have two x-ray rooms and one MRI, which is a 1.5 Tesla, which means it’s a high field magnet.

Basically, MRI is magnetic resonance imaging and it’s an imaging modality that allows us to see in greater detail what x-ray cannot see. Well, the x-ray is really good at seeing boning detail for fractures, etc. MRI actually dealt a little bit deeper into the muscles, tendons, so you can see a lot more that’s going on with soft tissue as well as the bone. One of the benefits with this particular scanner is it’s a wide bore and it’s also shorter. Basically, what that means for the patient. A lot of exams, the patient can go in and their head does not have to be inside the magnet. CT scan. Unlike MRI, a CT scan is really using an X-ray. Okay. But it’s using x-ray in such a way that it’s taking individual slices of the body. Pretty much everything. CT, MRI, X-ray, it will actually allow the physician to better diagnose and give them a prognosis or what they’re planning to be in order to make them better. Very high resolution, very high-quality images.
