Doctor Profile: Benjamin J. Maxson, DO

Okay. My name is Ben Maxson and I’m an orthopedic surgeon. I was born in Redding, Pennsylvania and I grew up in a very small town, a one street town without a stoplight called Stroudsburg. I did my internship and residency in Dayton, Ohio at Grandview Medical Center, and then I came down here to Florida to do a fellowship in trauma at Florida Orthopaedic Institute. Orthopedic trauma surgeons are the surgeons that you’ll see in the hospital if you get admitted after a car accident or after a fall. A lot of things that fall within what we do are things that other orthopedic surgeons are capable of handling, but then there are the other injuries which are more complex that require more time and more attention and that’s where we really Excel. For example, when I saw the net for the first time, we got x-rays and saw that she had a break into the knee joint and it needed surgery, so we were able to fix that for her and get her moving again.

Well when I had the accident prior to having the accident, I’ve never been in a hospital until I got into this accident, came forward orthopedic, got in to see the doctor, and due to my injury, that’s who I was assigned to, the best thing that’s ever happened. And it really was the best decision that I, that I’ve made. I have never, and I’m being totally honest, I’ve never been to a doctor, my, even my own doctor who has been so personable and so caring, and those that work with him, same thing. I mean, just, it was comfortable right from the beginning. He cares. They call the follow ups. Two weeks into physical therapy, I was up and walking again. I mean, it’s just, he’s fantastic. I, I can’t say enough good things about it and let’s be honest, he’s a nice-looking guy. That kinda helps.
