Orthopaedic Trauma: Saving Terry’s Legs

That day, everything was going along perfectly. Um, and I’m on the way back from court. Another driver cut in front of me, attempted to make a right. I pulled the wheel to the left and that’s essentially the last thing I remember. I hit a wall, uh, across the street diagonally head-on. The impact was so great that it just pushed everything forward and crushed everything in its path. The doctor in Broward County told me that, uh, you know, just to keep it in back in the back of your mind, but there is a chance that we’re going to need to do a bilateral amputation.

His legs were destroyed and uh, he was really crippled. Uh, so I’m not quite sure how he found me, but he sought me out from Miami to see if I could help. I could see the confidence in his eyes when he told me, don’t worry about it. We’re going to get you up on your feet. And as a result of all that, it turned out actually that he moved his entire family. It’s ever happened to me before, but they moved to Tampa so that I could treat him because it was both legs. There was gonna be a series of surgeries, was going to take about a year to resolve all of this. And you can see he’s in tremendous pain initially, and at the end of this, he’s like almost running up and down the halls. So I’m very satisfied.

He took me from a wheelchair to being fully independent today, being able to walk. And yeah I get to be a dad again. Yeah. I feel like Terry again.
