Reverse Shoulder Surgery with Dr. Frankle

This is the reverse shoulder replacement I developed. Reverse shoulder replacement is a relatively new procedure that has been in the United States since 1998, which is when I performed the first one here in Tampa. There’s a socket here in a ball here. The clinical problem that this addresses is the patient who has had a massive rotator cuff tear and is unable to raise their arm.  There was about a three-inch tear in the, in the rotator cuff and uh, and it was continuously getting worse. I couldn’t move at all. I was in such pain before. We really had no real good answer that would reliably improve their function. You can’t pay off with the shoulder in that condition. Oh no, I couldn’t do anything hardly. I couldn’t even feed myself. This provides stability that is lost in patients that have a deficient rotator cuff. I had surgery four years ago and arm is better than it was when I was 20 years old. That’s really the goal of this was to provide an answer for patients cause you can have it. And we saw that and we’re encouraged. These people are certainly improved. I have visitors probably about once a week from around the world because this has become such a, a really effective means to treat people, that there’s a great desire to become educated. We’ve been able to take a problem that actually existed in the humanity that we really had no solution and have been able to improve upon it. And now people really have an option. I’m doing wonderful now. I couldn’t ask for any better. I hope to be able to play a point of golf in 20 years.
